Design Selected

Updated: Dec 9, 2022

After considering three potential designs, it was decided that a pedestrian bridge to replace the existing bridge would be best for the community. The proposed design and redevelopment of the surrounding areas is shown in Figure 1 below. Figure 2 and Figure 3 show the alternative proposed designs that were considered. A weighted decision matrix was used to assist in the selection of the best design which can be seen in Table 1. Due to the advanced deterioration of the existing bridge, the longevity of the proposed bridge received the highest weight.

Cross-section of the area showing the proposed pedestrian bridge and parking, commercial, and recreational area. Image shows the bridge that will be removed as well. Immediately to the west of the bridge, the area is zoned to become proposed parking and recreational area. To the South east of the bridge, the area is zoned to become commercial and recreational area.
Figure 1: Pedestrian Bridge Spanning from Rumson Road

Image shows a cross-section of the area of interest. The bridge that will be removed is shown as well as the new proposed bridge just slightly to the south of the existing. Proposed recreational areas are found where the existing bridge is removed. The two adjacent intersections will also be redesigned.
Figure 2: Vehicular Bridge on a New Alignment

The image shows the cross-section of the area of interest. The existing bridge is being removed and replaced with recreational areas. A new bridge is proposed spanning the river at Rumson Road. The two adjacent intersections will be redesigned to accommodate the updated layout of the bridge and surrounding new recreational areas
